Meldon Farm sits on the foothills of Dartmoor next to a network of bridle paths and is ideally placed to make use of Dartmoor’s Horse riding and grazing. Traditionally horses were used by farmers for tending their stock on Dartmoor. Whilst most farmers now use quad bikes, we have found for our terrain and our cattle, horses are a better option. Dartmoor is a fantastic place to ride, it’s one of the UK’s last wilderness’ and is best viewed through the ears of a horse. Take in the peace and sample the atmospheric beauty Dartmoor has to offer on a truly unique experience with your horse. We also have an abundance of non riding activities on offer including fishing on our own 2 acre coarse fishing lake (plus Meldon Reservoir is only a 15 minute walk), walking – we have numerous public footpaths on the farm, the nearby ‘Bluebell woods’, an ancient oak and hazel wood is an absolutely beautiful in May and cycling – The ‘Granite Way’ cycle route runs 300m from the farm, it follows part of the disused railway line that ran between Okehampton and Plymouth.
This ancient market town of Okehampton is 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes along the cycle route. It has lots of shops and places to eat. Okehampton castle is worth a visit too.
Plus there’s the ‘Dartmoor Railway’ train service between Okehampton Station and Meldon Quarry, 500m from the farm.

We have 2 Shepherds Huts on the farm, Each of them have a double bed, a settee, a small dining table, a wood burning stove and plenty of outdoor space with a fire pit. Guests also have full use of the lodge, which offers a kitchen, lounge area, large dining room table and shower room.

Full cooking equipment is provided but you should bring tea towels, dish cloth and washing up liquid.

Please also bring your own towels.

There is no electricity in the hut, but you are provided with candles, but perhaps bring a lamp and a personal torch.

Your horses will be accommodated in a secure paddock next to the Shepherds Huts.
